Tutorial 3: Knitting Abbreviations

One of the most important thing in knitting is understanding pattern that you get. In knitting there are so many abbreviations used and below are some of them.Hope it help you a bit what its mean in the knitting pattern

Knitting Abbreviations & Terminology

beg	begin		psso	pass slip stitch over
BO	bind off		pw	purlwise (move stitch as if to purl)
CC	contrasting color		rem	remaining
CO	cast on, cast off		rep	repeat
cm	centimeter		RS	right side
cn	cable needle		rnd	round
cont	continue		SSK	slip 1 knitwise, slip 1 knitwise, knit two together
dec	decrease		sl	slip stitch without knitting or purling
dpn	double pointed needles		s1, k1, psso	slip 1 purlwise, knit 1, pass slipped st over
inc	increase		st(s)	stitch(es)
k or K	knit		St st	stockinette stitch, stocking stitch
k2tog	knit 2 together		tbl	through back of loop
k2tog tbl	knit 2 together through back loop		tog	together
kw	knitwise (move stitch as if to knit)		WS	wrong side
MC	main color		wyib	with yarn in back
M1	make one		wyif	with yarn in front
p or P	purl		yb	yarn backwards (move yarn to back as when knitting)
p2tog	purl 2 together		yf	yarn forward (move yarn to front as when purling)
p2tog tbl	purl 2 together through back loop		yo	yarn over
